JANUARY EDUCATION UPDATE

By Lynn Barbeau

Christmas is coming, no, by the time you read this it will be past and I pray that all of you had a very blessed Christmas. I plan to spend it with my children and grandchild in Minneapolis if we don’t have a huge winter snowstorm! Here is the update that I promised you – 31 shoeboxes for the Operation Christmas Child collection.

We’ve had our normal rush of December activities. Parent’s Morning Out had four Little School families participating and 17 children the first Saturday and 16 the second. Thank you to my awesome adult and teen helpers! I don’t know how I would do it without the extra hands. We even had a visit from Santa Claus one Saturday! Our Bible study at Heritage House last month was an Advent study that we’ve enjoyed. You are welcome to join us too from 10 to 11 in the Activity Room at Heritage House. All you need is a Bible.

The Sunday school Christmas Program this year was a return to the true meaning of Christmas with traditional songs, shepherds, the wise men, animals, angels, Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus, our newest PUMC member! Our older children had speaking parts and were wonderful. Our new GriefShare group started meeting on Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. Please tell someone you know who is struggling with loss about this group and know that they or you can join at anytime. Just bring a dinner along.

During December, the Sunday school children studied that “Hope Is Born” through lessons on Mary, Joseph, the journey and birth and finally that shepherds heard the news. Ask them about the story of Jesus’ birth and his parents. LOGOS had a wonderful fall semester! It keeps growing every year. We are off for the holidays and Confirmation will start on January 4 th and the other children on January 11 th . Please come into the church office to sign up your children or to reregister them for the spring semester. You are also welcome to come and “try us out” any Wednesday. Please do call and make a reservation so that we have enough food prepared and thank you to everyone who helps us keep our costs down with food donations.

There will be no Sunday school on January 1 st and we will resume on January 8 th . January is a quiet month with the big event our annual Talent Show and Potluck on the 29th. Think about the dish you would like to pass or what sort of act, dance, song, poem, magic act, karate, or whatever you would like to do! There is no football that day and what a great way to spend it watching fun entertainment or showing off your talent and eating with your PUMC family!
